Before I go to a gig I always do my homework by going to the band(s) Myspace & official sites. When I heard The Red Bullets, I was amazed at how much the lead singer was like Elton John. The tracks were equally up tempo and upbeat so I was looking forward to hearing them live.
The band with the sound & performance
All 4 members knew how to perform and just as important they looked like they were enjoying it. There is nothing worse than seeing a band looking miserable, and that includes the Gallaghers!!
I’ll stick my neck out by saying the lead guitar (Kyle Hall) and bass (Mark Wheeler) were outstanding to photograph. Every riff, every pick and every distortion was done with an amazing enthusiasm and energy. I hate to use this word, but there was was an amazing synergy between the two of them.
The octane from Kyle was tempered by a subdued seriousness; it was great to watch and even better to shoot. On some occassions it was a mission to keep track of him through my camera! Great to photograph because shooting Kyle was almost easy.
Mark was a subtle contrast; his performance was that of a laid back music veteran. An easy coolness swirled up with the air of a guy who loves what he does. I had a lot of fun trying to get him in a leaning back pose; he looked great doing that but he only did it when I was at the front or at the far right shooting Pete. I really wanted that shot, I came close but wasn’t entire happy with what I got. I even went down to shoot in JPG to get a faster shutter on him just in case he did do it.
Last but not least is their lead singer Pete Edwards. This guy is all about getting into his music and putting on a show.
I would have liked to see Pete let lose standing up. I know he’d kill doing that because he’s an unstoppable force when he’s sat down, what on earth could he do standing up!!
They’re coming back to Aylesbury for Hobble on the Cobble in a few weeks time, I know the town is in for a great show!
