I helped a friend out shoot a wedding last weekend in West London. A wonderful couple by the name of Oscar and Toni. I was secondary photographer which does make a nice change but I was very eager to get bride shots and there was always the temptation to shoot more of the couple rather than the guests; however I remained professional and got some great shots.
I thought about what to write this week that would be useful for bride and grooms; one thing that was abundantly clear was be sure your photographer knows the locations very well. My friend and I took the entire day before to plan and compose several shots so we knew where we needed to be. We spent a good few hours lining up shots, rehearsing steps and planning scenarios. However, most of that flew out the window when my friend realise he had been misinformed about a lot of things for the Wedding day. We joked about it, we had to! But our time was not wasted; we knew the locations, we knew what angles would work and we knew the layout of the place so we could predict where the couple and the guests would be.
Without doubt, it took out a lot of the guesswork when planning a wedding shoot. And it is something that is compulsory, regardless of the location.
A good photographer will never “wing” it on the day, that is a big fat NO. Make sure your photographer is prepared and that he is not taking any chances. I care about your wedding day as much as you do.
