2010 has been a year to remember, one of them being the amount of snow the UK received. So it was fitting that for my weddings in 2010 my first was in the snow and my last was in the snow! I just like the symmetry of that.

And so it was I made sure my four wheel drive Audi could make it from Aylesbury to Great Missenden on a very snowy December. Even though it was very near Christmas and it was a Sunday the roads were very clear of other cars. The road was slippery, but personally I find that to be a hoot!!

I arrived very early as I didn’t want the snow to cause any delay. I met with Kevin and Jo. I scoped out the venue and took a few snow shots. The view was very pretty! I think I took 20 just of the grounds! Then all I had to do was to wait for when the immediate family were ready to renew their vows.

The vow ceremony was very intimate. Both Jo and Kevin had prepared speeches; both of them had thought alot about what they were about to say. I was very weary to do my job, but also not to be a distraction.

Once the guests arrived I got candid shots of them enjoying themselves. I spent the rest of the doing what I love. Photographing a special occasion is such an honour, I had a wonderful time and I hope 2011 will be just as bountiful as 2010 was.

Christmas is over for another year at least. The snow has been a delightful distraction from the shopping and it makes a wonderful end for my best wedding year as a photographer.

This is just a quick post as I wanted to share this photo I took at my last wedding of 2010 in Missenden Abbey. The snow on the landscape was breathtaking. More photos to come soon.

Photography accidents that turn out interesting

I’m editing A LOT of photos at the moment but I needed just a quick break, so I took that opportunity to post this photo I took at a recent wedding. It’s completely usuable to give to the client but I just like how it works. Right now, I’m a big fan of the aged distressed look from the 70′s which is what this image looks like to me. Ironically, it was taken with one of the most advanced Digital SLR cameras on the market.

After quite a few weddings, it occurred to me that it all starts with a dream, then an idea and then a plan. The Bride and Groom have to consider venue, guests, photographer (of course) but it all comes down to two people wanting to share their dream with their friends and family. This was what I felt about Aida and Bob Watson’s wedding in Milton Keynes.

At the core of the day I felt a true sense of partnership between Aida and Bob. I am a sentimental fool at heart so when I see two people so in touch with one another it does give me pause every time I have them infront of my camera.

Photographically, even though the weather was not cooperating, it only gave me a few problems when shooting outside. Thank goodness Nikon made their cameras rain proof! Even though I was a little restricted by my environment and movement I didn’t make things harder for me, on the contrary it forced me to think on my feet which got the old blood rushing a bit! Unusually I was carrying a Nikon and a Canon; my main camera will always be the Nikon D3 but I’ve been able to carry a Canon 5d Mark 2 around with me recently so I wanted to know how it performed. Because of it’s large zoom range (24mm to 105mm) I could get some nice shots. Hoever, it was the D3 that saved me a few times when I need to shoot fast; it was the utmost importance to me that I got the balance of great wedding photography with keeping the Bride and Groom comfortable. Not easy when it’s cold, drizzly and windy!

It is just an observation on my part, but I believe you can tell what kind of people the couple are by the people they invite to their wedding and to me it seemed like the have the riches of good people in abundance.

Right now, I’m in the middle of editing a few thousand photos from several weddings in September so I wish I could write more, but I shall leave you with this about Aida and Bob’s wedding day. I just hope all my future weddings will be as indelible as theirs.

Wedding shoes photography

It is as important as the dress and the rings but it does not get the limelight that often but for this Photographer it’s an opportunity to flex my creative skills in a short amount of time.

The bride has labored many hours and internet searches to find the perfect footwear. For such a small item the shoes represents an important detail that I enjoy capturing.

As the Wedding Photographer, photographing the Bride’s shoes is a very creative time. Of course there is pressure to get great photos in a documentary fashion, but there is also an amazing amount of flexibility to experiment and try different things. Often the clients like the shoe shots I take which is a testament to me doing something right!

If you’re a Bride to be, then consider getting your photographer to photograph your shoes, if not for the album but as an important piece of your very important day. As the saying goes, “The devil is in the details”.

The Stroud’s wedding was to be the third wedding of my Wedding treble. I could not have asked for a better way to end an exciting but exhausting weekend of weddings. I finished with photographing two friends from my old Vineyard church fulfill their destiny. Everyone knew from the moment they met that they would get married, so it was a great privilege to attend and be their official Wedding Photographer.

Once again, I’ve only just finished backing up the files but managed to do a quick edit on one sneak peek photo.

Throughout various times at the Wedding yesterday, I was asked if my job as a Wedding Photographer is as great as it sounds, and there are times when it is very pressured, but there are often moments where I feel so happy to be able to share a moment throughout the day; Charlotte’s and Paul’s was no exception.

This is just a very quick blog to post a few of the photos I hastily edited last night, I’m actually preparing for another today today (don’t worry Aileen, I’m all packed and ready to go ) so I’ll just say I really enjoyed yesterday. It was also nice to see a previous bride there as well.
