The Keeler’s Wedding Photoshoot

Mr and Mrs Keeler are a beautiful couple to photograph. They are so vivid with an abundance of life. It has to be said Mrs Keeler was the most natural, Mr Keeler was merely following her lead. She makes it very easy for a photographer to capture. I can only hope my other brides will be this energetic and well natured.

Cycle 2008

A good friend invited me to the Cycle show held in Earls Court, London. I wasn’t sure what to expect as it was yesterday was only traders and not open to the general public until this weekend.  I had a great time meeting people and finding out about this industry which I am happy to discover is still growing.

the amazing drummer from nickelback!

This man was a wonder to watch, his speed and enthusiasm was mesmerising! The solo piece between songs at the nickelback gig was about 5 minutes but I could have watched and listened to this guy for a LOT longer!  Although this snap was only taken on my point and shoot, the lighting was really quite stunning, and my zoom and ISO is pretty versatile, and granted its a little noisy, but for a point and shoot, pretty good capture!

I think the Nikon D3 busted my wrist!!

Before I got my D3, I always joked to Kelly that it was called the wrist breaker because of it’s size and weight. The irony did not escape me when yesterday morning at 5.30am I woke up to a my right wrist in absolute agony, so much so that something had to be done immediately; option one was to get completly drunk to numb the pain however I realise that would be a completely waste of my precious Johnny Walker Blue Label ;-)

So, plan B was to get to the Stoke Mandeville Hospital’s A&E and see a doctor immediately. I imagined the A&E to be quite empty at 5.45am. I was pleased to see two girls from Finland and another girl who I never got to chat to because she had her Ipod on. I presumed the wait would only be 30 minutes…30 minutes later the assessment nurse (the lovely Angela) took down my information, took my blood pressure and (excitingly) my heart-rate which is a very pleasing 67BPM WHOO HOO!!!!

I was asked to wait further in the waiting area, Angela soon came out to tell me the wait would be about 90 minutes! I sighed but didn’t complain as I know how strained the British NHS system is regardless of what Michael Moore reports

I was prepared for the wait, I bought along a book I’ve been trying to finish for almost a year but I get easily distracted by Photography magazines, however I had to focus on my book called Songman by Will Hodgkinson bought for my birthday last year by a friend known as “her who cannot be named”. I highly recommend it; Hodgkinson asks musicians how they get ideas, compose and go about writing hit songs. He totally demystifies the process and makes it clear that it is about luck as it is about persistence and talent.

8am came and a doctor shouts out Mr Lee Terry in a strong accent. I make myself noticed and follow him into one of the examination rooms. After alot of questions and twisting he gave me a blood test and arranged an x-ray.

It seems I have inflamed joints due to excessive stress so he gave me a very cool splint to restrict movement of my right hand and told me to take Ibuprofen as that acts as an anti-inflammatory for a few weeks.

SO, in conclusion, BEFORE you buy a Nikon D3 beware of the consequences. It is a beast of a camera which does take gorgeous pictures but do not underestimate it’s weight. Treat it with respect and it’ll look after you by taking awesome photos. :-)

My new baby arrives. Nikon D3.

You have no idea right now how excited I am when I found this yesterday for a bargain price! It arrived less than an hour ago. In the midst of trying to get a job done in time for a client I couldn’t play with it immediate. I was ready to rip the box open and slam on a fat lens to test it out but I remembered that I really should document this moment just like I did with my last purchse, the awesome Nikon 24-70mm F2.8. So, with a crappy Pentax point and shoot (don’t ask) I took a few photos of me opening the box, putting it beside my D300 and D40x, and just to be in awe of it. It’s fricking HUGE!!!

If you’re at a gig, and you see a photographer point at you… Smile!!!!

I love my job! One of the best things about it is capaturing moments on stage, but one thing I am beginning to appreciate are the crowd. They are some of the most expressive faces I could shoot; they are entirely in the ‘zone’. The artist which they adore is playing on stage so their instinctive reaction is to smile, whoop, cheer and scream!

At my next gig (tomorrow) I’ll be getting more of the crowd, and here’s my message to the crowd and fans, when you see a photographer point his camera at you, it’s because he finds you interesting. You may not like your photograph taken, but trust me, the photograph will only use it if it’s good enough (well, a Pro would anyway). So please smile, wave, cheer, point, pose, grin, laugh or just give me an intense stare!!

Below are some crowd shots from Party in the Paddock 2008; see if you can spot Mr Roger Daltrey :-)

Party in the paddock. Roger Daltrey is coming soon, but here is Red Bullets

Because of the deal that was negotiated, I am not permitted to upload photos of the acts that played at Party in the Paddock, but I can release photos of the Red Bullets. I’m still sorting them, I have literally just started because I’ve been shooting for 3 days straight (I wish all weekends were like this).

Anyway, just as a teaser this is Kyle from the Red Bullets who performed a stunning set. The reaction from the 600 strong crowd was amazing; just imagine lots of cheering, clapping, dancing and raised arms… and this was before anyone was drunk!

Gig tonight photographing Roger Daltrey, Deep Purple and Marillion.

It should be a good evening tonight. I was invited to photograph a small-ish venue that is supposedly packed! I’m not sure what to expect, I don’t know what to wear at these things. I’ll be posting pictures up around Sunday. It’s going to be a busy weekend!

I can’t stop posting things now!!

I had to post this photo up! It was just an ordinary gate, but from a certain angle the nail at the center really emphasized the the focal point.

Hundreds of wedding photos. My favourites.

Last night, a friend came over and we looked at wedding photos for almost two hours!! I got dizzy flipping through hundreds of brides, grooms, churches and shoes!
