Laura and Merlyn Evans

It's all about The Man.

There is nothing more special that to be married in the house of God. Laura and Merlyn Evan’s wedding was very special to me. Not only are they friends of mine, but they are also Christians who understand the significance of being married in a Church.

The day started like all my wedding days, sunny! I arrived a Laura’s folks house early but I had still missed her. She had already left for the hair and make to be done in town, so I quickly grabbed my gear again and headed into town. I found Laura half way getting her make up being applied.

Getting into the Photography Groove

Very soon it was back to the house where I went through the routine of photographing the dress, shoes and accessories. I confess I do like this part; it allows me to be very creative in how I place and position the items. Positioning the dress always makes me nervous so I take extra care if I feel the need to move it.

I have not know Laura long, but she is simply one of those gentle souls who everyone gets along with so it was very easy to photograph her.

To the Church

Next was time to leave for the church in Aston Clinton. My photography partner, Kelly, was already there. I positioned myself at the front which was slightly elevated that gave me a good vantage point.

During the ceremony I kept movement to a minimum, there was every possibility I could have disrupted the event which also meant keeping my shots to a reasonable level (my Nikon D3 is quite loud in a church!).

Once the ceremony was done, I setup a few random shots of everyone gathered infront of the church and setup the confetti line so that everyone knew where they needed to be and so I can get that shot which everyone seems to like.

A quick dash from Aston Clinton to Bicester where the reception was being held. I allowed enough time for everyone to arrive before setting up the group shot. Because I had Kelly with me it was easier to do the group shots with both of us on the job. We got all those done quickly, efficiently and it kept the guests amused. After that I immediately took Laura and Merlyn away to continue photographing them for the Bride and Groom shots.

The group shots are always the most difficult session for a photographer. He has to organize people, get them all rounded up and interact in a way so that 80+ people are enjoying themselves at the same time. So once that was done I could relax a little bit.

After the breakfast and speeches, it was an opportunity for Kelly and I to get natural reportage shots of the guests. I personally at alot of fun doing that. There were lots of very funny people doing very funny things when a camera is pointed at them.

At the end, it had been a long day, as all wedding days are, but Kelly and I had so much fun! I’ve since met up with the Evans several times and I’m happy to report they are pleased with how everything went.
