Sound is Music Gig, The Regal, Oxford.

APOLOGIES, I HAVE NONE
Performing like it was Wembley

it was getting late, the crowd were wavering a bit. So it was with little expectation that this next band came on.

The band consists of two members Dan (vocals, guitar) and Josh (drums).

To my amazement they gave it a their all. Dan was simply amazing with his guitar and voice; he sang his songs with pure angst and rawness. I hope I have captured just an essence of this as it really was a powerful performance that he gave. It was great to watch and electric to photograph. Click here to go to their MySpace page.

Was it worth the trip to Oxford? Definately; it was an areana where it would be easy and almost expected of you to just turn around, walk out and find somewhere livelier to spend your Sunday. April and I were glad we did not follow the herd on this occasion.

Photographing them at the Regal in Oxford was a real pleasure. The problem was not with the band, but with the lighting. I had already spoken to the lighting guy to give me a blue/red contrasting canvas. You will see in the other photos I get some cool dramatic shots with this effect; unfortunately he reverted to a red smothering wash by the time Lionsex came on. I personally I can improve their shots dramatically with better lighting management. The photos should speak for themselves.

DOME OF SILENCE
Nice sound, what about performance?

Dome of Silence looked as though they've been doing it for a while. They were very professional and highly skilled, however I felt they did not give us the best because the atmosphere in the Regal was not exactly electric.

A real shame really because a later band, "Apologies, I have none" came on and showered us with an amazing energy even though it was under difficult conditions.

LIONSEX
Glam rock is fighting back.

If you are going to be the front man of a band dorning an outfit and hairstyle from the 70's then you had better have the attitude to go wtih it. I was expecting more than just attitude from the band Lionsex, I was wanting a performance and on the whole they did not disappoint.

When a approaching the front of a stage I need to quickly asses who is going to deliver the performance that my camera can reflect; with Lionsex it was easily their Lead singer Jef Leppard and bass player Davy Lyonz. These two were rocking it out to an venue that was difficult to play to.

I had only wished the other band members gave me something to work with; being a photographer I am supposed to capture moments not interfere, but perhaps next time I may ask the others to tear it up more so I can give them great shots they deserve.
